Frequently Asked Questions

We have tried to answer all the questions that you might have below - please ask if there is anything else you need information about!

Where are your sessions based?

We are located inside Martins Wood Primary School, Mildmay Road, Stevenage, SG1 5RT.  On arrival at the school, please enter via the double doors at the side of the gym.

What equipment do you have?

We have a large tumble track, a Olympic size beam, a vault, trampettes, floor area, bars and ropes. We also have other air products and lots of small hand equipment.

How old does my Child need to be to join your Club?

We accept school age children from age 4-17.  No gymnastics experience is necessary!

How do I join your Club?

Please complete the Contact Us form on the homepage of this website and we will get back to you with class availability. If no spaces are available, we will be able to add you to our waiting list if you would like us to.

Can my Child try a session before we commit?

Yes!  The first session is a trial session, which costs just £5.00.  You can then see if your Child would like to join us before booking your place for the rest of the lessons in the block.

Can I pay weekly or monthly?

Unfortunately not - we require payment for the whole lesson block (termly) upfront.

What is the Club membership for?

This is just £3.00 per lesson block and covers all the administration costs, along with first aid supplies and other important items.

Why do we have to buy insurance for Gymnastics?

Gymnastics is a physical sport and we are required by law to ask you to cover your Child in case of any serious injury.

Can I watch my Child's lesson?

We do ask that you wait in our café area while the lesson takes place as children make progress more quickly without looking for their parents. We do have a Watching Week twice yearly, where you can come into the gym and observe the lesson.  In the meantime, we would be happy to update you on your child's progress if you would like us to - just ask!

What qualifications do your Coaches hold?

Our Coaches are qualified to deliver gymnastics to various levels. We have a few Coaches-in-Training too, who are working alongside qualified Coaches to teach your children. All of our staff follow the SGC Development Plan - which is a comprehensive training programme to help them be the very best Coaches!

Many of our staff have also been first aid trained.

Can I leave site while my Child is at their lesson?

As long as your Child can use the toilet unaided and we have your contact details, you are welcome to leave your Child with us and collect them at the end of their lesson.  However, we do have a lovely waiting area available, along with a small selection of hot drinks and snacks, so why not stay and relax for the hour instead!

What should my Child wear to their lesson?

Any sports clothing is fine - e.g. t-shirt/crop top/leotard/shorts/leggings etc. Please ensure long hair is tied up and jewellery must be removed (newly pierced stud earrings can be taped up). Gymnastics lesson take place barefoot.
Please bring a drink for your Child.

What if my child is injured or off - do I still need to pay?

If your child is off sick or you are on holiday, unfortunately you  still have to pay for the lessons in order to keep your space.

If your child is unfortunately injured at an SGC lesson, we will give you injury credits off your next block of lessons, for the period of time they are absent.  If your child is injured away from SGC, or needs to be off long term for an illness, we will discuss with you the options available to you.
